Outline ET2-ST2
the new version of its turntable
for measuring loudspeaker
enclosures’ polar dispersion
An enclosure’s polar response is
a fundamental parameter when
deciding on its suitability for
any given application. Since
1990, Outline turntables have
been used to measure the
dispersion characteristics of
the world’s best loudspeaker
systems, designed by the most
authoritative sound designers (see
references).
Although having the same
dimensions as the previous
model, the new ET2-ST2 version
is even sturdier and offers the
following new functions:
·
compatibility with all
measurement systems on the
market
·
minimum resolution of 2.5° per
step
·
total control via personal
computer using ET Commander 3.3
software
· a
second (slave) turntable can be
controlled by the same
electronics and rotates in the
opposite direction to the main
unit (useful among other things
for running a rapid test of the
acoustic coupling of two
adjacent speaker enclosures)
· two
turntables can be controlled
using two controllers and the
movement synchronized using
software for automatic 3D
(balloon) polar plots.
The internal mechanism of the
"ST2" has been considerably
strengthened: the unit has an
overturning moment of 30kg. and
can now also be ceiling-mounted
to hang loudspeaker enclosures
weighing up to 100kg.
The motor rotating the unit
has 20% more power than the one
mounted on the "ST1" and, for
particular situations, a model
with five times the power can be
requested. A clutch has also
been fitted to the motor in
order to avoid damage in the
event of use with extremely
heavy enclosures.
The new ST2’s rotates in 2.5°
"steps", and a different reading
system has been adopted.
