Groove Armada get Butterflies

Considered ‘immensely efficient for its size’, Brit Row’s Outlinearray is used for the second time to amplify the famous Cambridge duo

Groove Armada, the English duo formed by Andy Cato and Tom Findlay, are top names on the international electronic music scene.

Behind the pair’s name, a very kitsch Newcastle nightclub that was all the rage in the seventies. The electronic twosome – originally from Cambridge – took the inspiration for their name from the venue.

GA became famous mainly thanks to I see you baby and My friend, both of which were used in car ads – the former for the Renault Mégane and the latter for the Škoda Fabia. They also wrote songs for the latest albums by Kylie Minogue and Róisín Murphy.

From a technical point of view, Groove Armada are perfectionists, as can be seen by the fact that the sound systems for their concerts are supplied by Britannia Row Productions.

This is the second time the London rental company’s Outline Butterfly line array has been used by the group. For the tour that ended recently (1/17 November 2007), there were 28 CDH 483 Hi-packs and 16 Subtech 218; the rig was processed via Dolby Lake and powered by Outline’s new T9 power amplifiers. Four DVS 15 - two-way multi-purpose enclosures also manufactured by Outline - were used as “ground in-fills”.

FOH engineer on the GA tour was Sam Parker, who, in an interview by a well-known technical journalist, expressed some very positive views on the merits of the Brescia-built arrays, describing them as “immensely efficient for their size”, adding that at the Love Box 2006 festival (the first time he used the systems) “they easily covered the 20,000 people there”. The journalist also observed that “the PA held the image beautifully to every corner of the room”.

Adam Smith, System Engineer on the GA tour stated: “The system performed consistently throughout, over a wide range of challenging rooms at very high SPL. Friday night at Brixton Academy in particular.”

As we write, Britannia Row’s Butterfly has already set out on the UK tour by Hard-Fi.

Considerato ‘immensamente efficiente e capace di un headroom esuberante’, l’Outlay di Brit Row amplifica, per la seconda volta, il tour del famoso ‘duo’ di Cambridge

I Groove Armada sono un duo inglese ai vertici della musica elettronica mondiale, duo formato da Andy Cato e Tom Findlay.

Dietro il nome Groove Armada si cela un nightclub, molto kitsch, in voga negli anni '70 a Newcastle. Da questo locale il duo elettronico - originario di Cambridge - ha preso ispirazione per il suo nome.

I GA sono divenuti famosi principalmente grazie ai pezzi I see you baby e My friend, entrambi utilizzati in pubblicità di automobili, la prima per la Renault Mégane e la seconda per la Škoda Fabia. Hanno scritto brani per gli ultimi album di Kylie Minogue e Róisín Murphy.

Sul piano tecnico i Groove Armada sono dei perfezionisti. Lo dimostra anche il fatto che Il suono diffuso nei loro concerti porti la firma di “Britannia Row Productions”.

È la seconda volta che la rental company londinese sceglie di utilizzare il suo Outline Butterfly line array per questo gruppo. Nel tour appena concluso (1/17 novembre 2007) sono stati impiegati 28 CDH 483 Hi-pack e 16 Subtech 218; l’impianto è stato processato via Dolby Lake e amplificato dai nuovi finali di potenza Outline T9. Quattro DVS 15 - sempre Outline (due vie, multi-purpose) - servivano come ‘ground infills’.

FOH Engineer del GA tour era Sam Parker, il quale, intervistato da un noto giornalista, ha rilasciato commenti rassicuranti circa le virtù dell’array prodotto a Brescia, definendolo, fra gli altri aspetti come “immensamente efficiente e capace di un headroom eccezionale”. E aggiunge che si tratta di “un PA in grado di mantenere l’immagine meravigliosamente in ogni angolo dell’ambiente oggetto della sonorizzazione”.

Adam Smith, System Engineer del GA tour ha dichiarato: “Il sistema si è comportato sempre in maniera esemplare a livelli di SPL altissimi in una vasta gamma di hall impegnative sotto il profilo acustico. In modo particolare il venerdì sera alla Brixton Academy”.

Nel momento in cui si sta scrivendo, il Butterfly di Britannia Row è già partito per il tour (inglese) degli Hard-Fi.
