Butterflies at the Queen Victoria’s naming ceremony

Britannia Row’s Butterfly rig amplified the notes of the London Philharmonic Orchestra at the naming ceremony of the “Queen Victoria”

10^th December 2007, Southampton – Britannia Row Productions used its Butterfly Outlinearray for sound reinforcement at the show staged on the occasion of the naming ceremony of the Queen Victoria, the cruise liner built by Italy’s Fincantieri shipyard for Cunard Line (Carnival Group), the legendary British company with almost 170 years’ of history and a glorious tradition of transatlantic service.

As far as the presence of Italian manufacturers was concerned, as well as Fincantieri – a world leader in its sector – Southampton also hosted the Butterfly systems manufactured by Outline of Brescia. Precisely 24 CDH 483 Hi-Pack units which, supported by the customary Subtech 218 for the ultra-low frequencies, amplified the notes played by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, one of the UK’s most important orchestras and among the most prestigious worldwide. There were also three famous tenors: Alfie Boe, Jon Christof and Gardar Thor Cortes.

The show consisted in a presentation, during which famous actor Sir Derek Jacobi told the Cunard story, accompanied by pieces played by the orchestra, including “Rule Britannia".

Following the official naming, by the Duchess of Cornwall, the ship’s godmother – accompanied by her husband the Prince of Wales – the impressive Queen Victoria left for her maiden cruise, stopping first at the ports of Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Oslo, Hamburg and Bruges.

This latest masterpiece of Italian technology has some impressive figures: 294 metres long and with a gross tonnage of 90,000 tons, it is one of the largest panamax liners (i.e. able to pass through the Panama Canal) built so far.

It can host 2,000 guests and a crew of 900, has 1,007 cabins and an 830-seat theatre.

Farfalle al varo della Queen Victoria

Il Butterfly di Britannia Row amplifica le note della Philharmonic Orchestra di Londra per il varo della ‘Queen Victoria’

10 dicembre 2007, Southampton – La Britannia Row Productions ha utilizzato il suo Butterfly Outlinearray per sonorizzare lo spettacolo tenutosi in occasione del battesimo di Queen Victoria, la nave da crociera realizzata dall’italiana Fincantieri per Cunard Line (Gruppo Carnival), storica compagnia inglese che vanta quasi 170 anni di storia e una gloriosa tradizione di servizio transatlantico.

Per quanto concerne la presenza del ‘made in Italy’, oltre a Fincantieri - leader mondiale nel comparto - a Southampton vi erano anche i sistemi Butterfly prodotti dalla bresciana Outline. Precisamente 24 moduli CDH 483 Hi-Pack, i quali, supportati dai soliti Subtech 218 a rinforzo delle bassissime frequenze, amplificavano le note della Philharmonic Orchestra di Londra, una delle orchestre più importanti del Regno Unito e tra le più prestigiose del mondo. Non mancavano tre celebri tenori: Alfie Boe, Jon Christof e Gardar Thor Cortes.

Lo spettacolo consisteva in una presentazione durante la quale il famoso attore Sir Derek Jacobi raccontava l'evoluzione della tecnologia navale nonché la gloriosa storia della Cunard, accompagnato da alcuni pezzi di musica classica fra i quali “Rule Britannia”: il bellissimo inno della Marina Reale.

A seguito del battesimo, tenutosi dalla Duchessa di Cornovaglia, madrina della cerimonia – accompagnata dal marito nonché Principe del Galles – la formidabile Queen Victoria è partita per la crociera inaugurale che ha toccato i porti di Amsterdam, Copenaghen, Oslo, Amburgo e Bruges.

Impressionanti i numeri di questo ennesimo capolavoro della tecnologia italiana: 294 metri di lunghezza e circa 90.000 tonnellate di stazza; si tratta di una delle più grandi navi panamax (in grado cioè di transitare attraverso il Canale di Panama) finora realizzate.

Può ospitare 2.000 passeggeri e 900 persone di equipaggio. Ha 1.007 cabine e un teatro da 830 posti a sedere.
